Summer Fun
Wow! Where did the summer go? I started this blog at the beginning of summer and promised myself that I would be diligent in writing posts weekly and here we are at the end of the summer with no posts to speak of. Shame on me!
I have a lot to catch you up on. I was fortunate to travel quite a bit this summer to some amazing places like New Orleans, New York, New Jersey, and Coronado, CA. I had some amazing sessions and got some awesome images. One of my favorite sessions was with an adorable family in Central Park in NYC. I love New York! My husband and I met there 15 years ago and lived there for the first 3 years of our relationship (I lived there for 5 in total). We try and go back whenever we can. The session was exceptionally interesting as we dealt with the heat wave that blasted the East Coast this summer. It was in the 90's and 95% humidity at 8:30am which made for some interesting challenges...hair, sweat, a hot 1 and 3 year old. The kids were great and I got some really cute images of the family.
I also had the opportunity to attend some seminars this summer that really gave me a creative boost. I went to Skip's Summer School here in Las Vegas and saw photographers from all over the world speak on different topics. I really enjoy these seminars for two reasons: I love to learn new techniques (which with technology the way that it is seems to be constantly evolving) and to be inspired. Photography is a rare art form. We as photographers document reality but through our eyes. You can have two great photographers at the same place and the same time and get two totally differnet interpretaions of the moment. That is what is so amazing about this medium.
I was so inspired that I have decided to start a new project: The Faces of Yesterday. I am going to photograph a generation that seems to me one that is being forgotten...the elderly. I have always had such an affinity for the elderly, perhaps because of my close relationship with my grandfather growing up. I just think that they are so beautiful and that the graying hair and the wrinkling skin represents not aging but experience. Haven't we all heard that "life's experiences" are the best teachers? But who seems to be ignored the most nowadays? The elderly. I want to celebrate their beauty, their experinces and their wisdom. I am going to photograph people 70 and older and ask them to submit a quote to be published along with their photo. I would like their voices of experince to be heard. What one thought would they like to leave behind for future generations. I am so excited to get going on this new project! I cannot wait!
Well, Fall will be here before we know it and the holiday rush will be in full swing. Please book your sessions early to avoid any major rush as we approach the holidays. I look forward to seeing you soon and I promise to write sooner than later. Be well.
